Sustainable Honeybee Program, Inc.

Building Better Bees

About Us:

Incorporated by EAS Master Beekeeper Billy Davis, and beekeepers William Bundy and Jeffrey Pfoutz in October 2008 the purpose of the Sustainable Honeybee Program, Inc (SHP) is to establish an integrated program of scientific development, education and community support directed toward reestablishing, strengthening, growing and sustaining regional honeybee colonies that are a critical component in the pollination of local food production and overall health and biodiversity of our plant environment. The population of honeybees has been in significant decline since introduction of various foreign parasites, pathogens and genetics over the last thirty years culminating in a near catastrophic loss of honeybees critical to pollination of our food crops over the last several years.

Over the last five years, Sustainable Honeybees (SHP) worked diligently to produce

local queens and nucs which are acclimated to our region; gentle, resistant to disease

and parasites, excellent honey producers and pollinators.  Our goal always has been to enable

us to provide you with excellent genetics upon which you can build your colonies.

We feel we have been successful in getting these genetics into the region in recent years. More importantly we believe we have been successful in demonstrating that  local queens can be bred with those characteristics and that the use of nucleus colonies provides numerous management benefits.

Consequently, it is time for us to focus on breeder queens and developing educational programs designed to train regional clubs and beekeepers in the production of nucleus colonies and queen rearing. This is necessary so that we may lessen our reliance on bees imported from

other areas which may have unfavorable genetics.

We thank you all for your support over the years and we look forward to a

new phase of truly regional, sustainable beekeeping.
